健康スポーツコミュニケーション学科4年生のジリメンヤ カトウ フセインです。僕は2021年に九州・大分県の高校を卒業して、神戸医療未来大学(当時は神戸医療福祉大学)に来ました。大学へ入学してからバスケットボールと勉学に励んできました。今も将来の目標に向けて頑張っています。

僕はウガンダ共和国で生まれました。僕がまだ幼いとき、両親の仕事の都合でコンゴ民主共和国へ引っ越しました。そして中学生の頃、内紛のせいでコンゴからウガンダへ帰ってくることになりました。でも、実を言うと、当時のことはあまり覚えていません。その後、ウガンダで小学校、中学校時代を過ごしました。中学生の時に、バスケットボールをしている僕を見たアメリカのエージェントにスカウトされて、日本へ来ることになりました。そして、大分県の高校で3年、この大学で3年が過ぎました。とても充実した6年間ですが、ウガンダへ一度も帰国していないことは少し寂しいです。

大学の勉強は、本当に大変です。しかし、難しいことの中にも楽しみを見つけています。大学の仲間が助けてくれて、励ましてくれます。バスケットのコーチであり担任の田川先生も、日本で生きていく上で重要なさまざまなことを教えてくださいます。バスケットボールと勉強の両立は大変ですが、この挑戦できる環境に感謝しています。

僕は、幸せな社会を作りたいと思っています。そして、大学卒業後は、日本でバスケットボールを続けられるように頑張っています。今(2024年春)はまだ何も決まっていませんが、自分を信じて挑戦を続けます。

I am Zirimenya Kato Hussein, a fourth-year university student in the Department of Health, Sports and Communication. I graduated from a high school in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, in 2021 and then enrolled at Kobe University of Future Health sciences. Since entering university, I have been devoted to both basketball and my studies. I continue to strive towards my future goals.

Born in Uganda, I moved to Congo at the young age because of my parents work. I left Congo in my middle school due to the situation of the country (war). And moved to Uganda. However, to be honest, I don’t remember much about that time. Afterward, I spent my elementary and middle school years in Uganda. During middle school, I was scouted by an American agent who saw me playing basketball, and it led to me coming to Japan. Since then, I have spent three years in high school in Oita Prefecture and another three years here at this university. It’s been a very fulfilling six years, but I am a little sad that I have never returned to Uganda.

Studying at university is truly challenging. However, I find enjoyment in the difficulties. My university friends support and encourage me. Prof. Tagawa, my basketball coach and homeroom teacher, also teaches me various important things for living in Japan. Balancing basketball and studying is tough, but I am grateful for this challenging environment.

I aspire to create a happier society. After graduating from university, I would like to be a basketball player in Japan. Right now (spring 2024), I haven’t decided anything yet, but I believe in myself and will continue to challenge myself. I will do my best and I hope you will support me. Thank you very much.
